In today's digital age, having something to hold, touch and feel can leave lasting effects on a customer. In this example, the client wanted to show off a new digital foil process through their 8-page quarterly newsletter.
I chose a beta fish for this design because it could uniquely illustrate the foil's effects. By incorporating the gold and opal foil into the ridges of the fins, the fish looks and feels 3-dimensional. Additionally, outlining the edges of the scales with holographic foil emphasizes the foil's tactile effect. The design catches the customer's attention, drawing them in to interact with it. Including the customer's name on the cover adds a personal touch and illustrates the use of personalization.

Production
The foiling processing happens during the finishing stage of production, and the embellishment areas are not printed on the piece. I created a yellow spot color named 'foil' and illustrated it on a reference document to depict where the foil should go. I added a <fname> variable in the same spot color to demonstrate the personalization.
The cover was printed on 80# white gloss cover stock, trimmed, and folded to 11" tall by 8.5" wide. It was finished with digital hot foil in bright gold, rainbow holographic, and clear holographic. Additionally, it had a soft-touch laminate and spot varnish. The 8-page newsletter was saddle-stitched and mailed in clear poly bags.
